Join Fluidra as a Product Owner, Connected Equipment and help shape the future of our IoT-enabled pool ecosystem used by more than a million pool owners and professionals worldwide. Based in Carlsbad, CA, you'll work at the intersection of hardware, firmware, cloud, mobile, and AI technologies, translating customer needs into innovative connected experiences. Partnering closely with Product, Engineering, and UX teams, you'll own the backlog, drive delivery, and help bring seamless, reliable smart pool solutions to market for customers across North America and beyond. Let’s Go Beyond the Surface!
WHAT YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE
Fluidra's connected pool ecosystem provides more than a million pool owners and pool professionals with tools to seamlessly build, enjoy, maintain, and repair their pools and pool equipment. We are looking for a Product Owner to join our IoT team in Carlsbad and own delivery for our connected equipment workstream. This hybrid role sits where hardware, firmware, cloud, and mobile meet: you will turn customer and business needs into a clear, prioritized backlog and partner with engineering to ship connected experiences that work reliably in real backyards.
Our connected equipment is a whole ecosystem rather than a single product: automation systems that orchestrate an entire backyard, standalone smart devices such as pumps, heaters, chlorinators, and robotic cleaners that connect on their own, and the services that sit on top of them for homeowners and the pros who care for their pools. With at least 3 years of experience as a Product Owner, you will help that ecosystem feel like one coherent experience, making sure user needs are understood, requirements are clear to Design and Development, and releases land successfully.
This role is focused primarily on North America, with the opportunity to contribute to global projects and to our broader effort to build a common, global way of developing products with our teams across the globe.
We are also building AI into our products and into how we work, including a conversational AI assistant embedded in our apps. We are especially interested in Product Owners who are curious about AI and already use it to work smarter. Additionally, you will:
- Learn about and deeply understand the real-world applications, use cases, and technology involved in swimming pool equipment and our software services.
- Work with a global team of Product Managers and Engineers to ingest requirements and translate them into well-defined epics and user stories with clear acceptance criteria, aligned with product goals and KPIs.
- Partner closely with our UX Design team during ideation to ensure user-centered design, consistent terminology & functionality between equipment displays and apps, and early consideration of technical feasibility.
- Own and prioritize the product backlog for the connected equipment workstream, and coordinate with Product Owners across multiple other workstreams to align & prioritize in order to coordinate deliveries according to internal lab & field testing teams along the way toward production launches.
- Coordinate requirements across mobile app, cloud/IoT platform, and embedded firmware teams, working with the team to manage dependencies, release sequencing, and over-the-air (OTA) update timing so features work end to end on real equipment.
- Understand and help shape how our connectivity models fit together, including equipment controlled through an automation system and standalone devices that connect directly, in addition to local Bluetooth connectivity, so users have a way to connect however a customer's equipment is set up.
- Collaborate with Product Owners, Product Managers, Marketing, and leadership to communicate clear roadmaps and contribute to go-to-market strategy.
- Write functional and non-functional requirements that hold up in the field, covering device states, alarms and alerts, connectivity loss, provisioning and onboarding, and error handling, so edge cases are designed in rather than discovered after launch.
- Represent the needs of both pool owners (Fluidra Pool app) and pool professionals (Fluidra Pro app), including remote monitoring, equipment diagnostics, and multi-site service workflows.
- Collaborate with the technical team to shape data flows, APIs, system integrations, and interface mappings across devices, cloud services, and apps, and support pre-development activities such as solution design, prototyping, and technical feasibility assessments.
- Lead and actively participate in Agile ceremonies such as sprint planning, backlog refinement, sprint reviews, and retrospectives; manage delivery, dependencies, and technical risks in collaboration with engineering leads.
- Investigate production and field issues alongside engineering and customer support, using logs, telemetry, and API tools to identify root causes, assess customer impact, and drive long-term fixes.
- Deliver primarily for the North American market while contributing to global projects with counterparts in Colombia, Barcelona, India, and Australia, and help drive the effort to globalize our product development processes and ways of working.
- Use AI tools to accelerate everyday product work, such as drafting and refining user stories, synthesizing customer feedback, analyzing data, and prototyping ideas, while applying sound judgment on accuracy and data privacy.
- Support delivery of AI-enabled product experiences, including helping define use cases, test scenarios, and quality criteria for conversational and predictive features.
WHAT WE SEEK
- 5+ years of experience in software product, business analysis, or technical analysis roles, including at least 3 years as a Product Owner on Agile/Scrum teams
- Experience delivering connected/IoT products, mobile applications, or cloud-based platforms
- Strong knowledge of the software development life cycle (SDLC), Agile methodologies, and the product life cycle
- Proven ability to write clear user stories and acceptance criteria that engineering teams can build and test against
- Hands-on experience with Jira and Confluence
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to business stakeholders and push back constructively when priorities conflict
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and comfort making prioritization decisions with incomplete information
Preferred
- Demonstrated AI aptitude: regular, hands-on use of generative AI tools (such as Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, or Copilot) in product work, and genuine curiosity about how AI can improve both products and team workflows
- Exposure to delivering AI/ML or conversational AI features, such as LLM-based assistants, prompt design, or building evaluation and test sets
- Experience with hardware-connected products or multi-device ecosystems, including firmware release cycles, device provisioning, OTA updates, and Wi-Fi or Bluetooth connectivity
- Experience with consumer mobile apps (iOS and Android) at scale, including app store release processes
- Experience supporting professional or B2B users, such as field service, installer, or dealer workflows
- Experience working on global, distributed teams across time zones
- Knowledge of the pool and spa, smart home, or HVAC industries
